Hisun Pharma Unveils Synthetic Biology Ambitions

China-based Hisun Pharmaceutical has established Yansheng Synthetics, a wholly-owned subsidiary focused on synthetic biology, marking its entry into the high-end biomanufacturing sector. The company aims to become China's synthetic biology industrial leader, with three bone-related products set for launch in August 2025. Yansheng's pipeline includes 24 projects spanning bone health, liver health, cardiovascular care and aesthetics, leveraging Hisun's 69 years of microbial fermentation expertise.

The subsidiary addresses industry challenges, such as product selection and process scale-up, through a flexible USD 24 million production line and dynamic R&D strategy. Hisun has partnered with Zhejiang University of Technology and other institutes to strengthen innovation. With 3,000 cubic metres of fermentation capacity and plans for global expansion, YunSheng reflects Hisun's strategic shift towards high-value biomanufacturing.
