UK-based Basecamp Research has closed a USD 1.4 billion oversubscribed Series C led by S32 with participation from Menlo Ventures' Anthology Fund and NVIDIA. The capital is earmarked for the next generation of the company's EDEN biological foundation model and for moving AI-designed drug programmes toward the clinic.
The company's thesis is self-repair: combine EDEN's ability to design long, complex DNA sequences with large serine recombinases that insert those payloads at safe, predictable genomic sites without double-strand breaks, then deliver the recombinases in vivo via LNP and/or AAV to reprogram a patient's own cells for cancer, autoimmune disease and beyond.
The moat is data as much as chemistry. EDEN is trained on the Trillion Gene Atlas, built with NVIDIA, Anthropic, PacBio and Ultima Genomics across samples from more than 30 countries on six continents under access-and-benefit-sharing agreements, giving Basecamp a pan-species understanding of DNA behaviour rather than a single-task generative model.
