China-based Asieris Pharmaceuticals has signed a conditional exclusive licence with Theramex HQ UK Limited covering Cevira (hexaminolevulinate hydrochloride), a first-in-class photodynamic drug-device combination for cervical precancer, across European countries, Australia, New Zealand and Turkey, in a transaction worth more than USD 250 million including a USD 15 million upfront, a USD 11 million near-term regulatory milestone and commercial milestones plus tiered royalties.
PharmCube's database tracking shows this is the largest European non-oncology gynaecology licence deal in five years, ahead of ObsEva-Theramex at about EUR 72.8 million and Mithra-Gedeon Richter at about EUR 70 million, signalling a shift for Chinese developers from pure technology export to higher-value global product partnerships.
Cevira uses a hexaminolevulinate ointment with a single-use cervical photodynamic therapy lamp to selectively ablate lesions, support HPV immune clearance and preserve fertility, letting close to 60% of patients delay or avoid surgery in a setting where no other approved non-invasive treatment exists. The product has been approved in China for histologically confirmed CIN2 in patients aged 18 years and older, with an EMA marketing application accepted and US Phase III design discussions underway.
