China's Hepa Thera announced on 2 July that its hepatitis B siRNA therapy HT-101 was granted breakthrough therapy designation (BTD) for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. HT-101 targets HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) to suppress viral replication and reduce antigen levels. Preliminary data presented last year showed a 3.29 log reduction in HBsAg by week 16 in high-dose groups.
As a leading HBV innovator, Hepa Thera joins domestic peers
like Argo Biopharmaceutical (siRNA) and GCE Healthcare (therapeutic vaccine) in
advancing HBV treatments through China's BTD pathway. HT-101 is the company's
lead candidate in its liver disease pipeline. China's HBV drug development now
leads globally across multiple modalities, including AusperBio's AHB-137
antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapy, which has achieved unprecedented HBsAg
clearance data.
