MindRank AI has entered an exclusive commercialisation partnership with Chinese compatriot 3SBio's subsidiaries Sunshine Mandi and Wansheng Pharma covering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau for MDR-001, an AI-designed oral small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist, in a deal worth up to RMB 1.75 billion including RMB 150 million in collaboration rights payments and up to RMB 1.6 billion in royalty payments.
MDR-001 is in a Phase III pivotal study in Chinese adults with obesity or overweight, after a 24-week Phase IIb study showed mean body weight reductions of 8.2% to 10.3% across dose groups versus 2.5% for placebo, with 34.5% to 48.1% of treated patients losing at least 10% of body weight and a 0.8% discontinuation rate due to treatment-emergent adverse events.
The deal structure is notable for what MindRank keeps: it remains the marketing authorisation holder, retains all intellectual property rights and continues clinical development, regulatory filing and manufacturing, while 3SBio provides full-channel exclusive distribution and commercial services after launch. The transaction also highlights AI-driven development speed, with MDR-001 moving from project start to preclinical candidate in eight months, synthesising about 80 small molecules, receiving IND approval within 19 months and reaching Phase III in 4.5 years.
