On 21 June, groundbreaking Phase III SLIMMER trial results were presented for ecnoglutide (XW003), developed by China's Sciwind Biosciences. The study demonstrated 15.1% placebo-adjusted weight loss at 48 weeks in 664 Chinese participants with BMI≥24 kg/m². The highest dose (2.4 mg weekly) showed 15.4% absolute weight reduction, with 92.8% of participants achieving clinically meaningful ≥5% weight loss, surpassing fellow Chinese competitors and matching global leaders.

Notably, the 1.8 mg and 2.4 mg groups showed no weight loss plateau by week 48, suggesting potential for greater efficacy with extended treatment. The biased GLP-1 receptor agonist also significantly improved multiple metabolic parameters including 54.3 µmol/L uric acid reduction and better lipid profiles. Safety mirrored existing GLP-1RAs, with predominantly mild-to-moderate GI adverse events.
